MISSION STATEMENT The mission of The American School Foundation of Guadalajara A.C., a bicultural college-preparatory institution, is to provide an American and Mexican education of the highest quality to qualified PK-12 students in an environment of excellence, created through the combined efforts of committed parents, professional educators, and motivated students, which meets individual needs and fosters life-long learning; preparing our students, through innovative programs and instruction, to be responsible and independent citizens in a complex and global society. PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT The American School Foundation of Guadalajara is an accredited, non-denominational institution which provides quality education to an international community of learners. Through the coordinated efforts of the administration, teachers and staff in the Early Childhood, Primary, Middle and High Schools, and with the involvement and open interaction of parents and the Board of Directors, students have the opportunity to fully develop their individual potentials and to become self-directed. Using English as the primary language of instruction, and meeting both U.S. and Mexican educational requirements, the school offers students the skills needed for advanced studies and promotes creative responses to the challenges implicit in life-long learning. Consistent with the above, the Board, the Administration, and the Staff of the American School Foundation of Guadalajara will: ¥ Accept primary responsibility for setting academic standards in a challenging environment which will meet the intellectual needs of the individual student; ¥ Allocate all resources toward the development of excellence in education with the following sequence of priority: faculty, curriculum, and physical plant; ¥ Recognize their responsibility to work in cooperation with the home to meet the intellectual, physical and emotional needs of the student; ¥ Involve students in the exploration of values, foster the development of personal integrity, and base teaching on the conviction that every human being is valuable; ¥ Strive toward continuity of curriculum throughout the school, using appropriate teaching methods and resources; ¥ Encourage the development of a sense of community within the school. INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES In implementing its philosophy, the American School Foundation of Guadalajara will encourage and assist every student: ¥ To master the basic academic skills necessary for higher education; ¥ To be able to communicate effectively in English and Spanish; ¥ To achieve a positive self-concept, self-respect and self-discipline; ¥ To understand and appreciate other social, cultural and national groups, as well as their own; ¥ To make a commitment to serve the needs of their communities in and out of school and to become responsible and knowledgeable citizens of the world; ¥ To understand and appreciate human achievement and to apply lasting standards for excellence in the natural, physical, and social sciences, the humanities and the arts; ¥ To view and use technology as a tool for acquiring and disseminating information; ¥ To take part in a wide variety of cultural and sports activities; ¥ To prepare for life in a rapidly changing world in which continuing education is an expectation.
