"Cut and Paste" -- The Ultimate Time Saver
The greatest tool yet devised for the legal profession is undoubtedly the ability to "cut and paste" from any Internet resource to your favorite word processing program (i.e., WordPerfect).
Here we will show you how to do it. Before beginning this task, open both your word processing program and web browser. In Windows 95, you will see all open programs on the taskbar on the bottom of the page. See them? If you do not see your word processing icon, click on the "START" button in the lower corner of the page. In the pop-up menu, select "PROGRAMS," and select "WORDPERFECT" from the menu. Now you are ready to begin.
First, position the mouse pointer where you want to begin copying. Hold down the left mouse button, maintaining constant pressure on the button. Begin to drag the pointer across and/or down the page until you reach the end of the selected text to copy. Release the pressure from the button only after you reach the end of the selected text. If you did this correctly, all selected text will be highlighted.
Second, using the mouse, click on the word "EDIT" on the upper menu bar at the top of the page. From the drop-down menu, click on the word "COPY," whereupon the drop down menu will disappear.
Third, your selected text will remain highlighted while you now click on the word processing icon on the bottom taskbar. Example, look for either WordPerfect or Word. Once in your word processing program, again click on the word "EDIT" at the top of the page. In the drop-down menu, click on the word "PASTE." Voila, your text is now ready for editing in your pleading!
Is this a great country, or what?
To return to the Internet, again look to the bottom taskbar for either the Netscape or Explorer icons. Click on the icon to return to the Internet.
