It's great to find this website and guestbook. It brings back so
many old memories of Rio days. I was at EA from 1956 until 1961 and
hated to leave. I would have graduated with the class of 64. Looking
forward to contacting old friends and classmates! For those who knew her--Rachel Dooley, mother of Brian ('72), Brendan ('71) and Michelle, died in an automobile accident on June 20th. Brian J. Living here in Germany I had to watch the game -torcendo for Brazil all the way, of course - in the security of my home. But there'S no way that the neighbors didn'T hear my shouts of joy at the 2 goals. Why- becuase the Germans were so stunned you could hear a pin drop... Thank you for bringing
back so many wonderful memories of the beautiful Moore McCormack ships.
My father was stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay
during 1958 - 1963. My brothers and I attended Stella Maris College in
Montevideo. Previous to Montevideo, my father was stationed in the U.S.
Consulate in Porto Alegre. We were fortunate to travel on the S.S.
Argentina in February 1960 from New York to Montevideo, and on the S.S.
Brasil in July 1963 from Montevideo to New York. It was always a thrill
to see the beautiful sights of the Rio de Janeiro harbor from the deck
of a Moore McCormack ship. Regards, Edward Purcell Santa Monica, CA

Webmaster <webmaster@stirlinglaw.com> - Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 00:10:14 (EDT) This message is for Class of 1969! I know some of you are still alive and kicking. So, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come to the EA Saudades 2002 in August. I will be arriving August 2 and will be staying at the Ceasar's Park in Ipanema. I have some very old class photos that I am trying to get on this website. I'll bring them to the birthday party too. I remember many of you: Diane Taylor, Ellen Farmer, Nancy Bertao (her mom and mine were best friends), Alan Bildner, John Byrnes (punch anyone out lately? or was that Eddie Hughes?), Mark Carpenter, Linda Elliott (hey girl - email me!), Pat Fallon, Danielle Gabbay, Tim Gilman, Gretchen Greiner (you were on SS Argentina with me going back to the States), Deb Holmes, Parke Keener (in contact), Jo Knopp (hey girlfriend - where are you?), John Kubish (sigh!), Mary Locker (last time I saw you was in Maitland, FL-1972), Alicia Loomis (hey another girlfriend!), Lillian Oppenheimer (you were always so shy), Sue Perkins (you there anymore? Tried to contact you some time back), Grant Savage, Vivian Simon, Sharon Smith (how's the Doc?), and Ronny Wolfson. Since I remember all of you, you all need to get your bunnies down there! Take care - miss our wild and crazy days at EA. Linda Quering <desertratq@mindspring.com> Las Vegas, NV USA - Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at 12:24:22 (EDT) Hi! I'm happened upon this site while looking for a way to order Guarana Antartica online. Go figure! I am not an alumni of EARJ, but graduated from Paca in Sao Paulo in 1982. I believe we competed against each other at the tournaments like Paiol and Rancho Raniere. I believe it was at Rancho that I met Heidi Carbonelli and her sister, Letizia, whose dad was working for Alitalia. I am pretty sure they were students at EARJ, but may not have graduated from there. If anyone has any info, pass it along to me. I have often wondered what happened with Heidi. Thanks! The idea is for people already on the database who had brothers and/or sisters attending EA in lower grades to send their full names and graduating class years to me to add to the list. I know there are a lot of names out there uncollected because many of the early yearbooks (pre 1980) did not list middle school or grade school students. If your siblings want more information listed have them contact me directly. Again, thanks for your help! Abracos! Bruce Stirling '70 <rbsII@stirlinglaw.com> Phoenix, AZ USA - Friday, July 06, 2001 at 03:04:49 (EDT) This place is so completely cool to find after all this time! It is so great to see so much that has been missing from my life for so very long! Speaking of long, since it has been nearly forty years since any of you has heard from me, it is going to take quite a bit to catch you up with what has gone on with me since then. With that in mind, please read on: I am, indeed, alive and amazingly well and living near Moorefield, West Virginia (find Winchester, Virginia on the map and then look about fifty miles to the west). This is where my folks retired to in 1967 and where my father died a couple of years ago. Until August of last year I had been living for quite a while in Charlottesville, VA and still own a house there. I instigated an early retirement from managing the copy center at Piedmont Virginia Community College there and moved here to take care of Mom. "Here" refers to a two hundred acre farm in a portion of the area known locally as "the flats". It actually is not especially flat here but is more like rolling hills surrounding a river valley. It is quite beautiful and peaceful. Mom still gets around fairly well for her age. She can do most of the normal daily tasks but her memory is rapidly losing ground. It puts a whole new meaning to the words when I say that Mom has forgotten more about cooking than I will ever know. But I am nonetheless a pretty good cook and she eats almost everything I create. Now that the warmer weather has arrived, Mom spends a lot of time outside digging in her flower gardens and doing other tasks around the yard. Thanks to previous years of effort her gardens are still quite beautiful. (Mom and Dad moved here when Dad retired in '67.) Sadly, Mom has forgotten a lot about gardening as well. I am still a folksinger. Some of you may recall that Keith Behner and I played guitar together a few times. I am very involved with an online organization called Mudcat.org and have been doing things with them since 1998. You can see a fairly recent picture of me here: http://shorty.mudcat.org/photos/photos/allan_c.cfm Unlike many other groups of people who are associated by way of the web, "Mudcatters" tend to see each other in the 3-D world whenever possible. They get together from time to time to make some music. I have attended three gatherings in New Jersey, two in the D.C. area, one up in Maryland (and a few others about which I will tell you in a moment). Meeting these people is like meeting old friends. The music is unforgettable. A fellow folksinger named Bill Sables came over from England to join me on a whirlwind 9,000 mile driving tour of the U.S., along with a stop in Toronto. In 33 days we passed through 27 states. Our stops along the way were to visit other "Mudcatters", most of whom we had only met online. It was a great adventure and we played music with some wonderful people. I'd do it all again tomorrow if I could. The year before that trip I planned and executed a two-week, solo backpacking trip which took me from one end to the other of the Shenandoah National Park by way of the Appalachian Trail, a distance of about 130 miles. So you see that I have been having a few adventures here and there. I hope to have many more someday. Oh, by the way, if you are ever in the mood to hear some good folk music and have some time on your hands, I participated in a net-radio/video show last year during the long road trip with Bill, which (using RealPlayer) you can listen to and watch here: http://shorty.mudcat.org/radio/episode.cfm?EpisodeID=40 . But beware that it is quite nearly a five-hour show. Bill and I were quite nearly at the end of our big adventure when we did the show at the home of Mudcat.org near Philadelphia. If you fast-forward to almost the very end (of the second part - it is in two sections,) you can hear me sing a song I wrote that I am rather proud of. But my appearances are scattered throughout the recording along with quite a few other very talented musical friends. For a live show, I think the music turned out to be quite good. Life is sorta slow nowadays here at Mom's farm. I try to stay close at hand at all times to help to keep her straight. That limits my activities quite a bit. I have a long-time friend who lives about forty miles away. He comes to visit from time to time. He and I play quite a bit of music together. Then there is an occasional Saturday evening when a couple of other friends visit to increase the level of music a little more. Were it not for these visits, life would be fairly mundane. The height of the day is when the mail arrives. The internet is my only other connection with the outside world most of the time. For that reason I would welcome reconnecting with any of my old friends from EA. If you are curious about what I did during the years since you last saw me, there is a short biography that might help to fill in the gaps. It can be found here: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=11680#89380?threadid=11680 . I am sure that there are some important things that were left out of that bio, but it somewhat covers the ground. Since that was written quite a few things have happened. The backpacking trip and the Adventure with Bill were among many others. Also, my friend, Kathy, and I are no longer in that romantic relationship but have downshifted (if you can call it that) into the great friendship that was the basis for the whole thing. Since the pictures in the above link were taken (at a church coffeehouse near Cincinnati,) I have lost a few pounds and have trimmed some of the hair. The years have been very kind to me in a number of ways and I am looking forward to whatever the future may hold. A few years ago I stopped letting life happen to me and began happening to life. It has made all the difference. Seeya, Allan Allan Clark <aceclark@hardynet.com> Old Fields, WV USA - Saturday, June 16, 2001 at 19:44:48 (EDT) Just a quick note ... Our school’s name is Stommen and you will find it in Kinna, a small town with a population of 9000, situated about 40 miles southeast of Gothenburg, (the seconds biggest town) in the western part of Sweden. Our pupils are, or will be 13 years old this year and they have all studied English for 3 years. This means that they can understand English pretty well, but also that not all of them are good in writing English. They have chosen a country each so it means that we’re not looking for hole classes to write to, just 1 pupil in your school. We are going to help them to write and we’ll also read the letters before they’re sent. Perhaps you will do the same. For different reasons we’re interested in getting pen friends to our pupils: They can practise there English, get to know another country better, have new friends and so on. Besides this, there is an IT-project in which we’re part of in some Swedish schools and the intention is that 40% of the Swedish teachers will use IT for pedagogical reasons. Our projects will be finished in the end if May and we hope that the pupils will go on writing each other in the future. Please write back as soon as possible! Congrats to the creators and the viewers, you bring back some positive memories for me. Although I moved on from Rio to the U.S., eventually winding up in New York City for a career in investment banking (yeah, those of you who knew me would have never believed it, I barely - and I mean barely - graduated from EA) and then had a family and moved to Germany. I will always have fond memories of my Carioca days, and a piece of my heart will always be Brazilian. I was especially feeling saudades because even over here in Deutschland we saw some coverage of the Rock in Rio festival - chato que nao deu pra atender. Brasileiro" Names List. Snail Mail: 21w164 Monticello Road,
Lombard IL 60148-5155 . Ma Bell: 630/268-1340 (Recorder always
on! If in, I'll answer.) I thought I'd given you all this a while ago, but it doesn't
appear to be on the website: I'm on the mailing list and am planning to attend the EA 2000 reunion in Miami and Rio. Need to get more people from the 1968-72 era (those I knew). Please update the class of '70 list with this info. Thanks! Karen Seiger (karen@colibrisolutions.com)
on Sunday, January 30, 2000 at 19:09:12 Hi Ali, I just read your message. It would be great if
you saw this and contacted me. To all of you that have put time and effort into this website...I thank you! You helped to find a long lost friend. Though I have not had the pleasure of seeing Rio since I left in 1974, the memories keep in fresh for me. I am divorced with 3 grown kids and 1 grandchild. I would love to hear from some of my EA friends. Abracos, Lynn Sat, 22 Jan 2000 21:47:06 -0500 (EST) (Dave McGuerty '72) Looking for friends that graduated in 76 and 77. You know
who you are Roberto, Judy, Japona and the rest of the gang. We just received some great old photos of Leblon and fellow EA
students from 1953! Tom Page sent them to Walt Perkins, who
forwarded them to me via email. I am going to rework and computer
enhance them a little, and then they will be posted to the web
site. Thanks very much for the contribution. Hi - I was part of the class of 1997. I just want to be sure
that if anyone is looking for me, they have some form of getting ahold
of me. You have done a wonderful job on this site. Beijos,
Carollyn I graduated in 1976 and would love to hear from anybody.
Roberto Resende, Judy Nagel, Teri Ryan, I know you guys are out there,
please contact me !!!! Congratulations, Shari! And you're welcome. I've
recently surfed through all of the various alumni sites, and it's nice
to see the interest and watch the EA online community grow. The
individual class web sites are very impressive, and together we all make
for one pretty good web site for the school. My years at EA and in
the Cidade Maravilhosa were almost magical (in hind sight). They
seem to improve with time . . . . Congratulations on the baby.
Nineteen years is a pretty good spread! Just wanted to check in and let everyone know I had a baby
November 8th!!! Yep, my fourth girl...the twins are graduating
this year, they will be 19 in October. My 14 year old will be a
freshman, and then there is the "Princess Itty Bitty" aka
Brisa Shaw...her socks won't be dirty until she's in the 6th grade, none
of the other girls will put her down or let her cry. She was a
definite surprise to all of us, but muito loved. Anyone in contact
with "Buck" Smith? Love this website, Sterling...thanks
soo much!! Hi! I'm from EA class of '82 and I just surfed onto the EA
site for the first time and I'd like to be added to the class
list. Here's the vital info: Hi all - especially class of '72 if you're out there
somewhere. I left the school in 1970 but still remember all my
class mates fondly. Does anyone know anything about Ricky Baitz?
Barry Richards? Would be nice to know. It was very sad to
see that my admired English teacher, Beverly Walter, has passed
away. Does anyone have any information about her life from 1970
onwards? Olá gente! The Official Website for the Class of 1979's
class reunion is up and running. Many thanks to web site designer
Larry Siulagi. Check it out! http://members.xoom.com/cindyo/EA79
. Remember EVERYONE'S invited, so July 23-25, be in Virginia to
meet up with classmates! Hello EA! It has been a while since I left in 1990 (1 year
prior to graduation) to roam the Caribbean in style, or lack there
of. The memories seem like it all happened yesterday. How is
Mr. MacFarland? "I dig it man!" Party on,
Mark! You may remember better my sister, Jennifer, who is in
Advertising now. We are both partying around New England, like
true EARJ alumni. I am in foreign exchange investing with
UBS AG, imagine that! Good luck and long live EA and the '91
crew!!!! I started at EA in 4th grade and graduated in 1980. I've
visited the site before, but failed to check out the guestbook!
Looking forward to the Year 2000 reunion and willing to help out with
the details. The Class of 85 web page is up! More to come, please e-mail
me with your information and comments. http://members.xoom.com/bmcdonald/index.htm
. Oi Gente!! My Internet service provider in Brazil, Openlink,
has put up a catalog of alumni of all schools in Rio. You can sign
up your name and year of graduation and also search for other
alumni. Please check out: http://produtos.openlink.com.br/colegios/
. By the way, where are all the '77ers ? It is so great to read this guestbook. I graduated in 1974
and it doesn't seem like that long ago! Incredibly, my oldest
daughter will be going to High School next year! (Too bad for her
it's not EA!) I live outside of NYC in Long Island. My
sister Stacy, class of '75, lives in Boston and Pam, class of '79(?) is
on NY and I know she is in touch with a lot of you. I haven't been
back to Rio in so long but would love to. Keep the website going,
it's so much fun to read! Elyse Go To More Messages from April 1999! Oba!
