BARULHO BRASILEIRO VII is COMING!!! BARULHO
BRASILEIRO VII Please read and sign our GUESTBOOK!
Ciao for now. Abracos e saudades a todos. Tom and Gary Craig Williamson (Graded 1958), hopes to attend Barulho in 2001 and will speak to others about it. Craig joined up this June. John Behner (Escola 65), a member since April 1998, writes that he attended his 35th reunion in Fort Lauderdale in August. He filled in everyone on what a time he'd had in Monterey, and encouraged them to join him in Las Vegas in 2001. Fortunately, John got out of Florida before it began raining chad! James Page (MacKenzie 1950), & Pamela (Tulk) Hunnicut (St. Paul's 1946), members since October 1987, have decided to resign. They have enjoyed (all?) Barulhos since the first one in Pheasant Run (Chicago) in 1983. Dr. Dole A. Anderson has passed away. His wife, Edna Anderson, retired, and so they will no longer be listed. They first joined Barulho in May 1987. Mrs. Mary Jane Carpenter (Graded 1942), a member since May 1987, also decided to resign. I believe she was the first treasurer after Ken Hunter. She still hopes Barulho 2001 will be a great success. Mrs. Mary Katheryne Corrigan (Graded 1947), writes thank you for the many years of listings. You are all welcome! Especially since you've been a member since June of 1985. Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Grieveson, members since December of 1984, have decided to retire. Ms. Nancy Allen Hall (Graded 1957), a member since December 1987, has decided to retire. But she does think we've done an outstanding job throughout the years. Dave "Tiny" Smith (Escola & Graded 1950), a member since October 1987, writes the Bobs are doing a great job. Well, thank you, "Tiny" for the "thank you." George B. Pichel writes that he attended EA from the day they opened until 1937, and took a class after mustering out of the service in 1945. George has been a member since 1987. He appreciates our lists. Glad to hear it, George. Joan Diane Marshall (Escola & Bennett 1951), and a member since 1995, is planning on being in Las Vegas. See you there, Joan! INSTIGATORS are people willing to so some fun work. Not lots of hard work! You just identify yourself to your classmates and or allow them to contact you. Phone, email, snail mail, or pony express. Whatever works for you and your classmates. What is the purpose? To set up a dinner, cocktail party, or central suite to meet, matar saudades, and out to attend same. Even Palm Beach voters can handle this! Add your name to the following list: INSTIGATORS: contact Bob Hautzenroeder below for more information! EA'65 Ken Mertz kbmertz@aol.com Only ONE so far! Please pay through the next Barulho, summer of 2001. Please mail your checks to Barulho Brasileiro; c/o Robert L. Huff, CPA, Suite 301, 11551 Forest Central Drive, Dallas, Texas 75243. In my prior newsletter I requested some help with the Barulho preparation and am happy to say that several people stepped up and will join the committee to ensure that our Barulho is successful. Since their assignments are not final, they could get the hard jobs like C. M. M. (Cachaça Master Mixer) or B. Q. M. (Beer Quartermaster) positions. For those of you who wrote to me about the T-shirts we had at Monterey. You are all 100% correct. What happened with the shirts was that our original vendor had to be replaced and the second vendor did not do a bad job on the design of the shirts but as you are aware the quality was less than perfect. My apologies to all of you and that problem wont occur again. The only use I have for my shirt is to wax the car. Thank you all and hope to hear from you. Tom and Gary. APARTMENT DWELLERS! If you live in an apartment /condo or anything else with a "unit number" of some kind, and that information is not printed on your label, we need that information. The idea that "we've always received your newsletter" only holds true until your letter carrier has a bad hair day! Missing / wrong apartment numbers this time: Joy (Merryman) Anderson - and Sarah Werneck. DROP OUTS: Each year a few people request to be dropped. These people are identified with an asterisk in the left end of their address line. If you are or were friends and or acquaintances with these people, this is your last chance to save their address: Fletcher - Mr. & Mrs. Newton & Bette Fletcher. Klabon- Ray & Virginia Klabon are both deceased. Info from daughter Judy Easter. Mackenzie - Ruth, SPGS'60 Deceased. Rehder - Ruth Rehder, EA'39 (Mrs. E. Clayton Seeley) passed away 1/16/97. Serpa - Jean (Worthington Anglo Brasileiro & St. Pauls '39) Serpa. They enjoyed Tampa, D.C., and Cape Cod, but now are unlikely to travel to any more Barulhos. Um grande abraço. NEW ESCOLA STUDENTS. You may remember we picked up a large list from Walt Perkins. Most of them are on the Names list, but some have erroneous addresses. These people are identified with a "W" (wrong) at the left end of their address line. If you are or were friends and or acquaintances with these students, and know where they really are now, we would indeed like to know! Aguilar, C. J: moved: 509 S. We try to get this information from the hotels, but they are not all that accurate. Especially when the Jones' make reservations for themselves and the Smiths. Reading the list later you don't know if it's the Joneses kids or not. But Monde saw Rudy Domenie, Sammuel Emmons Jr., Bibi & Dick Momsen, and Bill Tscherfinger. Noted and recorded! THANK YOU Geoff Crewe for filling me in on the renaming of Saint Paul's during World War II. Guess there was enough nationalistic patriotism to go around as all parties disavowed any connection with the Axis powers. But the school does remain "Saint Paul's" on our school list now. Fresh back (10/22/99) from two weeks in Sao Paulo, Geoff reports both St. Paul's and Graded to be thriving. THEY DID IT! Dr. Alexis Artwohl & Dave Butler have done what so many people have threatened to do. They retired from their desk jobs in January 1999 and are travelling full time in an RV. The telephone area code does not match the address because the address is a mail forwarding service and the phone is a left over cellular. They are footloose and fancy free! Congratulations! For the EAGLE-EYED: We have worked more on the program sort code. Now blanks in your surname are ignored in the sort. Thus "de Smith" would be between "Derning" and "Despinich," not in front of both. This means your name might have moved on the names list. Somebody wrote in and asked, how about a Barulho on the East Coast sometime soon. Well, how about - #5 was "On Cape Cod," of course! #4 was in Alexandria, VA; #2 was at Innisbrook (Tampa FL). So, when you come to Lost Wages (Las Vegas), be prepared to volunteer for the next one. Of course, that means you've hornswoggled some friends into helping you, and you've found a hotel/resort that will keep us for $19.95 a day and whip up a fejôada! Amazing what this can do for your organizational skills!! WEB SITE: From time to time, I have suggested you log onto the EA web site. Bruce Stirling felt that it was time the Barulho Brasileiro had a web presence. As original keepers of the faith, the power and the opportunities of the world wide web was just too great to ignore. So he has set us up a web site with real horsepower. This is a multi-processor Unix 400 MHz server linked by redundant T3 lines to the Internet backbone. Unix is a heavy duty operating system used at universities, JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) and other sites that do research, science, and engineering. Bruce, I think you've done a great job, and I'll do a better job of keeping you informed. Warning! There are 6000+ names on the EA Alumni download, and the e-mail can reach lots of people. Bruce is his own webmaster, and you will find it at: http://www.stirlinglaw.com/ea/eaweb.htm TELEPHONE NUMBERS have been formatted consistently. They now all appear in one of three formats. The "North American" format covers Canada, the United States and some territories, and a few countries (they would know). My U. S. phone number prints as 630/268-1340 (the "/" marks off the area code). Then there are non-North American Countries. They print as 55-21/431-1212 (the "/" marks off the country and city codes). Then there are certain special countries without city codes and special cities without country codes. Example: They print as 011-852/555-1212 (Hong Kong). We only print the "011" so youll know it isnt North America. A second "/" indicates another telephone, close but not linked as 011-852/555-1212/4 (the second number would be 011-852/1214). You always have to dial the International Access Code, what ever it is in your area. Coordinator: Tom LaRocque; 8121 Marcella Drive; Orlando FL 32836. Treasurer: Robert L. Huff CPA; Suite 301; 11551 Forest Central Drive; Dallas, TX 75243 List Maintenance: Bob Hautzenroeder; 21w164 Monticello Road; Lombard, IL 60148. You may call 630/268-1340 with address changes. Be prepared to leave a message! If Im home, Ill answer - but the "message machine" is never off. And yes! You may communicate with "BobHautz@aol.com ." |
